Delta Township Expected to Review Raising Cane’s Proposal in January
Fast-growing chicken chain plans 2,400-square-foot restaurant with dual drive-thru lanes near Lansing Mall.
DELTA TOWNSHIP — A Raising Cane’s chicken restaurant is proposed to arrive in Delta Township, with planning officials expecting the project to come before the Planning Commission in early 2026, according to statements made during two recent public meetings.
During the Nov. 24 Planning Commission meeting, Planning and Economic Development Director Peter Menser informed commissioners that they will likely see the Raising Cane’s project materials during their first meeting of the new year.
“January 12 is the first Planning Commission in 2026,” Menser said. “There, a Raising Cane’s chicken restaurant has proposed for construction at the northwest corner of Elmwood and West Saginaw.”
The parcel is a wooded, undeveloped lot at the northwest corner of Elmwood Road and West Saginaw Highway, adjacent to the Lansing Mall entrance.
“So, if you see the big mall sign, it’s the property to the north of that,” Menser said.
Menser also shared details of the proposed building’s footprint and configuration.
“There’s an undeveloped piece on the west side of Elmwood,” he said. “Raising Cane’s has proposed like a 2,400-square-foot building or something with two drive-through lanes.”
“A lot of information coming your way on that,” he noted.
The project could potentially require both a Site Plan Review (SPR) and a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP), according to the Delta Township Planning Commission work session minutes from Nov. 10.
If approved, the project would introduce Delta Township’s first Raising Cane’s and add another national brand to the revitalizing Saginaw Highway corridor near the Lansing Mall.
Township officials noted that more information will be available in early 2026.
